The combination of experience and innovation, respect for the environment and natural cycles, managerial rationality and passion for quality seem to have been naturally transferred over the last century to the industrial world. The shapes of the Barilla industrial complex near Parma reproduce the settlement model of the farmhouses on a larger scale: a regular grid of streets and rows of trees organizes a series of isolated, simple-shaped pavilions around vast open spaces of different nature. The proposal contains two parts conceived in a unitary way but developed at different scales and conceived in distinct temporal phases. The first part (phase A) concerns the creation of an atrium and a series of common reception and distribution areas for the two existing office buildings, a new greenhouse-distribution gallery on the ground floor and the new auditorium; the second (phase B) foresees the eastward expansion of the four “Barilla Houses” (Knowledge and Innovation Lab, Nutrition Center, Gastronomy house, Aesthetic / Language Studio), the connection with the current farmhouse used as a company shop, and the arrangement of the lawn area in thematic gardens.
