Dimnikcobau Business Park
Modernist ideology conceived architectural design as a mere operation of data collecting processed through a step-by-step “method” where the final form was the mechanical result of a correct process. Even if extremely attentive to all functional issues, we believe a good design should be much more than that: through a deep interpretation of the given theme and a dialogue with the client, it should generate a pleasant environment for everyday life, enhancing human relations by expressing a sense of place and “character” to the people who live and visit it in time.
In the industrial and office districts of the European cities, buildings usually occupy the middle of the building plots and the open areas surrounding them function only as delivery or service spaces; the result is the annihilation of any possible outdoor social life. In our proposal, the central open space becomes the generator of new relations and regulates the transformation of the area over time. Its environmental qualities and its welcoming character will make it a strong attraction point for all the collective activities of the quarter.
A number of simple elements contribute to shape the heart of the project: a light metal canopy sheltering the open space from the sun and the rain, formally connecting the new buildings and the existing ones and creating a sense of protection for the open air social life. The rich planted landscape, the overspill of the new public functions on the common space and the backdrop of the new building fronts give scale and articulation to this social environment, alive at all hours and seasons.
